Multiple MCC Track & Field Student-Athletes To Compete in State This Weekend
Following the conclusion of the Menomonee Falls and West Allis Nathan Hale sectionals on May 30, multiple Milwaukee City Conference boys and girls track & field athletes have advanced to the state tournament. The student-athletes are set to compete on June 6 and 7 at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex in La Crosse, Wis.
Girls Events
Rufus King is well-represented on the girls’ side thanks to a strong postseason showing. Senior Kaiden Harris secured her spot in the 100M dash with a second-place finish at sectionals, while Izabel Romero qualified in both the 800M and 1600M events. Generals’ teammate Amerie Mitjans-Shapiro continues to impress after claiming a sectional title in the 100M hurdles, looking to extend her win streak into state. Riverside’s Zariah Dyer will be the sole girls representative for the Tigers, competing in the triple jump.
Rufus King will also send a 4×100-meter relay team featuring Taniya Smith, Jayla Peterson, Kaiden Harris, Lanee Johnson, Amerie Mitjans-Shapiro and Trinity Hickman Thompson.
Boys Events
The boys representatives are equally impressive, led by Rufus King’s Jaiden Alvarado-Jones, who qualified for the 100M, 200M and 400M events after placing in the top three in each event at sectionals. Teammate Rashahn Hayes joins him in the 100M dash and will also compete in the high jump. Senior Jalanai Hervey rounds out the Generals’ student-athletes in the field events, qualifying in the long jump.
Freshman Logan Zeise of Rufus King is a name to watch after a breakout performance in sectionals, where he finished third in the 3200M to earn his state debut. He will also run as part of the 4x800M relay team alongside Max Klassen, Donovan Guthrie, and Emmett Kress, Malachai Riddle and James Henderson.
Riverside will also see its share of competitors throughout the boys events. Sophomore Kevion Dickerson, who placed second at sectionals, will vie for the top spot in the 100M dash, while fellow sophomore Kwame John qualified in both the 200M and 400M events. Junior Noah Albarran also punched his ticket to state after finishing third in the 1600M run.
Rounding out the Milwaukee City Conference competitors is Washington’s Dejai Lee. The senior will represent the Purgolders in the long jump after a first-place finish at sectionals.
