Golda Meir’s Blackmon and Reagan’s Nelson Named MCC Student-Athletes of the Week (Feb. 23)
Aniya Blackmon (Golda Meir High School) and Nasir Nelson (Reagan High School) were named the Milwaukee City Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 15-21.
Nelson rose to the occasion Thursday night, pouring in 29 points on 12-15 shooting from the field, including 3-5 shooting from three-point range, as Reagan topped Washington in the opening round of the Blue Division conference championship tournament. He rounded out his night with six rebounds and seven steals, powering the Huskies to a dominant victory and a ticket to the next round.
Blackmon, meanwhile, was the engine behind Golda Meir’s run to a second consecutive Gold Division title. The senior averaged 24 points and shot 82 percent from the free throw line while pulling down 13.5 rebounds per game and adding 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals. Her across-the-board dominance helped lift the Owls past Rufus King in the championship game and secure back-to-back conference crowns.
